We have been going for just over 2 years now, and over that time, we have loved interacting with all of you from all over the world. It has been awesome to be a part of your journey as a Christian!
We have received many questions regarding what we believe at Love Church. People often ask if we are aligned with certain sects like Messianic Judaism, Pentecostal, Baptist, etc.
In addition, people often ask us about our views on Law, Grace, Justice, and epecially now, the end times (Eschatology). It takes time to flesh all these topics and ideas out since the Bible is so vast, and so forming a fully fledged doctrine is something that takes time. We want to be clear on our stance on certain topics, and so after some prayer and guidance, we have decided to put all this info in our newly revamped About Page.
We will still keep our original intro, but now we have expanded it to include more in depth topics, including FAQs on stances on the Bible we hold. So now, at one glance, you can see our core values and beliefs.
With that said, I will include our new 'About Page' below. Have fun reading it! If there are any questions, please reach out to us via the contact form.
Thank you for your continued support. God Bless.
What We Are About
Love Church was founded in 2023 by us, Grant & Jade. We have been married since 2021, and we have been on a mission together ever since. The mission behind creating this site was to dive deeper into the Word and not shy away from topics that Christians deemed 'too controversial'. Here, we talk about topics like Israel, Justice, the Old Testament, and Money.
Everything here starts from one place: we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, and by nothing else.
We also love finding out what a passage meant to the people who first heard it. We do this by:
- Studying both the Old and New Testaments, because the New quotes and builds on the Old.
- Reading the Bible in its original languages - Hebrew, Greek & Aramaic.
- Letting scripture interpret scripture, and looking at the Jewish roots of our faith.
Good Christians disagree with us on some things. Where they do, we say so and show our reasoning.
Teachings
You can find our collection of teachings throughout the site. This is our main form of content, and they are categorized according to the tabs at the top.
Our teachings cover the Old and New Covenants, End Times, Justice and everyday Christian living.
If you have any questions or want to suggest a topic for us to write on, feel free to reach out to us here.
Membership
We offer a membership to all readers who want to be up to date on the content we put out.
We have plenty of free content, but some topics will be released only for members as we want to reward those who are actively supporting us. We have a free option, as well as monthly/yearly subscription options, if you want to support the ministry.
You can read more about what being a member gets you on our Donation or Membership pages.
Core Values & FAQs
What Sect / Type of Christianity Do We Belong To?
We are Bible-believing Christians. The Bible is the Word of God and represents the whole truth to us. We believe in a balanced view of Grace, Mercy & Justice, and look to Jesus as our only way to be saved. We try not to identify with any particular sect.
We fully agree with the Nicene Creed.
How Do We Perceive God?
We believe in the God of the Bible, who is one God, but manifested in three persons (Father, Son & Holy Spirit). All three persons make up one. Kind of like an apple has a core, skin and flesh, but it is still an apple.
Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one
1Jo 5:7 For there are three that testify
How Do We Perceive Jesus?
We believe Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach in Hebrew) was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a Virgin. He is fully God and fully man. He gave up His eternal glory to be on Earth with us and to die as a sacrificial lamb for humanity to destroy the devil's work:
1Jo 3:8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
Jesus was crucified on the cross, where He died, and then rose again on the third day, victorious over death. We believe He is the only way to the Father, and no amount of works or following the Law of Moses can give you salvation.
How to Obtain Salvation
There is only one way to be saved, and that is through Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift from God. It is by grace alone, through faith alone, and it never depends on religious works or on keeping the Law. We receive salvation when we:
- Have a personal faith in Jesus Christ (confess Him as God and saviour, and believe in His resurrection)
- Repent from the sin that Jesus redeemed us from.
Eph 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.
After salvation, the Holy Spirit begins to change us to become more like Jesus. The first change you should see is the most important one: you walk more in LOVE. Jesus said the whole Law hangs on loving God and loving your neighbour (Matthew 22:37-40), and Paul said love is the fulfilment of the Law (Romans 13:10).
Nothing you do after you are saved adds to what Jesus finished on the cross. Nothing on this site is a test of whether you are really saved.
What About the Law of Moses?
The Law was given to Israel. It shows us what sin is (Romans 7:7), and it shows us that we need a saviour, because nobody but Jesus has ever kept it. Jesus kept it in full and took its curse for us on the cross (Galatians 3:13). We are not under the Law. We are under grace (Romans 6:14).
That does not make the Law worthless. Paul calls it holy, righteous and good (Romans 7:12), and we find a lot of wisdom in it. Grace is also not a licence to sin (Romans 6:1-2). The New Testament still calls things like sexual immorality, theft and idolatry sin, and the Holy Spirit leads us away from them.
So how do we, Grant & Jade, live? We take a Sabbath day each week to rest, but we celebrate God every other day of the week too. We take wisdom from the Bible's food guidelines and lean that way when it suits us, because we find it healthier. We keep the biblical feasts because they keep us close to God and they point to the return of Jesus. All of this is a personal choice. It does not make us more saved, more holy or more loved than a Christian who does none of it.
Paul is clear on this:
Rom 14:5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.
Col 2:16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
That applies in both directions. We should not be judged for keeping these things, and we will never judge you for not keeping them.
Some of our older teachings put more weight on keeping the Law than we hold today. We are working through them, and each change is logged in the Change Log.
Gender Equality
We believe all mankind was created in the image of God. We believe in two genders (Man and Woman) and that there is no way to change your identity in Christ.
We believe there are no differences between men and women in the Church, only that each group has unique strengths specific to that gender. No gender is better than the other. We welcome women pastors, leaders, and prophets (Like Deborah, Miriam & Esther).
We believe the only hierarchical structure involving a man and a woman is within a marriage context, as this was Eve's eternal punishment for sinning in the Garden of Eden.
In addition, we also embody our own trinity - Spirit, Soul & Body, just like the God we are made in the image of.
Do You Believe in Tithing?
Much like the rest of the Law, we take wisdom from the Old Testament here. We practise tithing, firstfruits and alms giving.
- Tithing = 10% of net income (What's in your hand, pay your taxes truthfully).
- Firstfruits = The first of any kind of increase. This can be crops, bonuses, a first business sale, first rental income, etc. This giving can vary, but we consider it to be around 2.5% of a year's wage, or the first of anything new (E.g. the entire amount of a first rental income), whichever you prefer.
- Alms = Giving to the poor and to people in need.
This is how we choose to give. Giving is a free response to God. It is never a payment for blessing and never a condition of salvation.
2Co 9:7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Pro 3:9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;
We also believe God does not want us to be poor. It is hard to give to the poor when you are poor yourself!
Psa 37:25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.,
Do You Believe In Baptism?
Yes, we believe in both water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. There is a Biblical model for both baptisms, both in the Old and New Testament.
Do You Believe in Christening or Confirmation?
These acts are fine, but are not in the Bible and should not be used as a replacement for water baptism or baptism of the Holy Spirit. However, dedicating a child to God and dedicating your life through confirmation are both good things.
Do You Believe In Communion?
Yes, we fully believe in the act of Holy Communion and believe it represents an act of covenant given by the Lord. We believe this is only for believers, andnon-believers should never take communion as it will bring judgment on them.
1Co 11:29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.
The wine represents the blood of Jesus that washes us clean, and the bread His broken body.
Do You Believe in Speaking in Tongues
Yes, we believe speaking in tongues is normal, accepted, and the best way to pray. This is often a great sign that you are baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Act 2:4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Tongues can be heavenly languages or earthly ones. Tongues should not be spoken in a Church setting unless they edify the congregation.
Do You Believe In The Non-Canonical Biblical Texts?
We have read many extra-biblical texts, such as the Book of Jubilees, Enoch, Jasher, etc. We believe these are fine to read, provided you are grounded in scripture and have thoroughly read through the Bible already. These texts are all referenced in the Bible itself. In addition, we often read Jewish commentaries on various topics to understand the Old Testament even more.
While we have never done a teaching on these extra-biblical texts, it is something we would consider if there is interest. Reach out through the contact form if you want us to write about it.
What Are Your Thoughts on Israel
Many Christians believe that the Israel of today is not the one of the Bible. A similar thought is that the Church has replaced Israel. Both of these fall into 'Replacement Theology'. We do NOT believe in replacement theology, and stand fully with the land and people of Israel. The people of Israel have their own covenant with God, and you would be ignoring a lot of prophecies still to come if you believe in Replacement Theology.
This does not mean we always agree with the decisions of the government of Israel, but we are called to stand and pray for the land (Just like you can disagree with your own government, but you must still stand with your country).
